WINE! WINE! WINE!

Wine is one of the glories of Italy and from Podere Palazzo you can savor all the best Italian wines, and especially those of the three great wine producing regions adjacent to the houseÑTuscany, Umbria, and Lazio. Many of the wines of these regions are known throughout the world and are associated with some of the beautiful cities nearbyÑOrvieto, Rosso di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Others are less known but equally worthy of attention. There are several ways to add to the pleasure of learning about the many wines produced in this area which was the home of the Etruscans, the people who brought viniculture from Greece to the Italian peninsula a couple of thousand years ago.

Wine Tastings at Podere Palazzo
The talented chefs of the nearby Michelin rated restaurant, La Parolina, can arrange for a a wine tasting in the comfort of Podere Palazzo. Iside and Romano serve a wonderful selection of Italian wines and are known for their menu that pairs wines with the foods they served. The Podere Palazzo wine cellar is already stocked with wines selected for quality, value, and local interest by Romano and Iside which can be the beginning of educating your palate to the great wines of the surrounding regions. But, even better is an evening or afternoon tasting presented by La Parolina at the house which features not only the best wines of the area but also a wonderful sampling of locally produced cheeses. An afternoon or evening tasting of wine and cheeses is a great way to learn about some of the best products of local producers.

The Enoteca Experience
Another great way to enjoy Italian wines is to visit an enoteca. An enoteca is a wine repository that offers visitors an opportunity to sample many types of wines and buy them if they like them. Many people think of an enoteche (plural of enoteca) as wine libraries when small quantities available and visitors can sample different wines from different producers at one location. Many of these establishments also offer food to complement the wines served. The well know "Enoteca Italiana", in Piazza Matteotti in Siena, is a wonderful establishment that offers 1,000 different wines and is worth a visit if you are wine aficionado.
