Trattoria & Bar Gianfranco

A typical small town place with tasty regional specialties and pizza at affordable prices.
Reservations needed on weekends when people come all the way from Rome for hearty
home cooking. Inexpensive.

La Parolina

Closed on Tuesdays all day and Wednesdays for lunch
The closest restaurant to the house is also one of the most original in the area. Run
by two young creative chefs you will be served delectable food that is respectful of Italian
traditions and is made from the best of locally produced ingredients. A warm, intimate
room with formal service. Nationally recognized. Reservations are a good idea. More
expensive. (Cooking lessons at the restaurant or Podere Palazzo can be arranged. If you
like cooking, this is a treat not to be missed.)
 

SAN CASCIANO DEI BAGNI 10 minute drive

Daniela

Daniela is the place to see and be seen as well as to eat wonderful traditional Tuscan
cooking. The restaurant, situated in the former stables of the palace of the Bologna family,
is simple and elegant. Reservations recommended. Moderately Expensive.

Bar Daniela
Piazza Matteotti
Next door to Daniela. This is a good place to get a morning cappuccino and a cornetto or
a gelato in the afternoon or evening. A wide assortment of European newspapers and the
International Herald Tribune can be purchased here. The outdoor cafe has a nice view
across the piazza to the valley below.

La Fontanella

In the newer part of town, the comfortable dining room of a small hotel. Savor the very
best of regional cooking. Meats, pastas, and desserts are prepared with care and are
always delicious. A great wine list. Reservations recommended. Moderately expensive.

La Fornarina

Serves good pizza and has a wonderful bread bakery. You can also buy olive oil, wine,
and other Tuscan specialities. Moderate.

Pasticceria Il Duomo
Piazza Matteoti
A terrific bakery. Try their biscotti with espresso or cappuccino. If you are cooking dinner
at home, buy something for dessert.

The Bar at the Fonteverde Natural Spa Resort

A beautiful full service bar at the hotel-one of the ’Leading Hotels of the World’-just
a few minutes from the house. White jacketed waiters. Elegant service. A great place
for a night cap. Expensive.
 

ACQUAPENDENTE 10 minute drive

La Capra Campa Trattoria

Closed on Thursdays
A very small intimate restaurant where food is prepared one plate at a time and simply
but appealingly presented. Meats are hormone and anti-biotic free. Quiet and friendly.
Moderately priced for lunch and dinner.

Trattoria Toscana

A favorite of the locals. Good food at good prices. When in Acquapendente, eat with
the Acquesianos. Moderate.

Pulvano Dino Bakery

A great bakery just off the main square. Pizza, bread, cakes, cookies and sweet goods
of many kinds... they have it all.

Il Giardinetto

A very simple and informal restaurant serving good Italian style pizza and appetizers.
Right on the main piazza of this sleepy town and next to a playground area where kids
can run around. Inexpensive.
 

CETONA 30 minute drive

This 12th Century Franciscan Monastery has been converted into a hotel and gourmet restaurant
and is a self-sustaining community for recovering drug addicts. It is worth a visit just to
see the monastery and its art but it is also a wonderful place to have dinner and support
a good cause. Make a reservation and be sure to get a tour. Plan a stop in Cetona before
your visit and take a beautiful walk toward the highest point in town to see intimate views
of the unique landscape that has made this town a haven for the rich and famous. You are
in good company as you admire the landscape-Valentino has a house here. Expensive.

Il Sobborgo

Refined local cuisine served in the well restored cantinas of an old building on the main
piazza or under a pergola in a secluded alley. Either experience is delightful. Don’t forget
to take a stroll before or after dinner in the street of beautiful medieval Cetona. A snack
bar part of the same establishment serves good ice cream and drinks on the piazza.
Moderately expensive.

Osteria Sette di Vino

Known for its pecorino and its piazza, the mother of all Renaissance piazzas, this
delightful, not to be missed town in the magnificent Valley of the Orcia River is also
home to the unique 'small plate' Tuscan style food served here. This is simple tasty
peasant food prepared with love by its charming owner who does it all, including
telling you what to order. Reservations are a good idea. Moderate.
